Do they really expect us to believe that the moon is somehow responsible for the displacement of large volumes of water? I think there's definitely something strange happening here...

thats not it, tides happen because water expands when it gets heated by the sun and contracts at night. that is what explains the fluctuation in surface levels of the water.
nasa measures ocean surface temperatures by measuring the height if the water using radar altimeters. hotter water sits at a higher altitude.

How TF did dirt end up on that rock without eroding away after like, 5k years?

I mean maybe it gets a few leafs from nearby forests every year but no way that compensates for all the erosion. You can see erosion leaving dirt streak marks on the side as the dirt drains into the water.
