The reason aerospace got so big was aerial warfare. After this, airliners became a thing and more money was to be made. Without the initial incentive, commercial airflight was just a sci-fi concept dreamed up by 10 year olds.
My approach to this would include:
> Finding alternative propulsion methods based on renewable sources of energy for long-term, repeated use (railguns?)> Establishing a moon base FIRST (baby steps)> Mining resources from the moon and asteroids to incentivize companies to make money off of the resources and energy to be harvested, prove it can be done.This shit happens in steps, Elon is missing the trees for the forest, in this case, only seeing the big picture end goal and not the things that need to be done FIRST.
