Alcoholism leads to all kinds of degeneracy and weak ethics.
Even in small amounts it makes you stupid and aggressive in the short term, and in the long term it makes you literally evil. The more you drink the worse it gets.
And if that weren't enough (it should be), it's also the most potent "gateway drug" around.
Full blown alcoholics meet every definition of "danger to themselves and/or others", and are more deserving of the "severely mentally ill" label than almost everyone else who also fits the bill.
