On this day, at 1:23:45 reactor 4 of the Chernobyl nuclear reactor went critical and exploded.
The area around the reactor has now been abandoned for 35 years, irradiated beyond healthy levels.
Today we remember those who were lost in the following weeks, those far away and those buried in lead coffins outside town.
