without getting too technical can someone explain what the fuck is at the edge of the universe.

if the universe is expanding, and matter can't be created. what is the edge or the limit that we're seeing? is it just that our field of view is expanding at the same time as the distance light travels? or is the universe finite and everything is just spacing further away from everything else.

what i'm trying to ask is: is the universe a box and we can't see the end, or is the universe a bunch of objects and matter in open space just getting more and more spaced out.
