I need a graphing calculator, but not so much that I want to spend more than I have to.
Casio seem cheaper than TI, and there are some minor brands cheaper still.
Thx in advance for recommendations.

Well, personally I think graphing calculators are clunkey and quite anoying to use. desmos.com can do all the graphing you need and it's easier to use. If you really insist on getting a graphing calculator, I had the TI84 plus which is great but also quite expensive.

A lot of the students I tutor have graphing calculators, but they don't know how to use them to solve problems.
I don't either, because I don't have one - so I think if I get one, I'll learn to use it, and be more able to help.

I couldn't get my old phone to work any more (I don't remember what kind)
so my uncle gave me his old Samsung phone. I bought a SIM card for it
from Z-Tel, installed it, waited for 20-minute download, and it works.

In that case makes sense to get the same ones they have. Different brands will probably operate very differently. Worst case I think there are emulators you can run on a laptop or something.

Hmmm in that case I'd check ebay for deals.
A used graphing calculator is probably the least used "used" item I can think of.

I would really recommend getting a laptop. A used thinkpad is a decent choice, you can find ones that will work fine for under $200 on ebay.
If you spend an extra $30 for an SSD (as they usually come with and HDD and there's a huge performance increase with an SSD) you have a reliable computer for under $230 that will do most anything you need.
Maybe even tell your school that you can't afford one and they might set you up with something.

Not sure what model is the current hotness, but I see lots of used TI-83s and TI-89s on egay for about $30 or less. Having used shit sucks but if it's just for work who cares? And probably better a TI that isn't the exact same model than theirs than a Casio or HP that will work completely different.
