I've been trying to come up with some formulas that would lend themselves to modelling a loot-box game, so that I may eventually implement this in a program.
Am I correct to assume this falls within the domain of optimization and operations research? Unfortunately I'm not particularly mathematically inclined, so I thought perhaps my best bet would be to consult people who are and hopefully get some constructive advice on approaching this kind of problem. I mean, how would one even begin setting up an optimal probability allocation scheme that would maximize revenue and customer engagement for example? This seems to me like an insanely complex task.
