The cell takes the DNA when it needs to make protein and moves the DNA over to an area where it is read and interpreted which causes the proteins to be made.
The vaccine sends the mRNA to the area where the DNA would be interpreted which "teaches" it how to make the spike proteins.
The virus itself does this same exact thing but instead of making spike proteins it makes the full virus which is more dangerous lol.
