>>13022343first and foremost, there is no cure. research in fighting alzheimer's is the graveyard of billionaires; a lot of money has been flung into the shredder with not much to show for it. the first anything that is clinically proven to even slow down alzheimer's will reap the windfall of untold billions, nevermind an actual friggin' cure.
as it is, there is supposedly a drug trying to come to market that, if you squint at the data in the right light and at the right angle, may just provide a very slight benefit to a tiny subset of the alzheimer's population. maybe. that's how tough it has been to make progress in the fight for alzheimer's.
if you're a young, seemingly healthy person, and you want to lessen your risk of alzheimer's and brain illnesses in general, here's what you do:
1). no drugs. not alcohol, not tobacco, not weed, not anything. say hello to a clean, sober life from now until forever.
2). eat healthy. yes, you can binge on the occasion muffin or pasta but your days of knowing everyone at the fast food joint by their childhood nickname is over.
3). sleep. this is a toughie. 7-8 hours is optimal. too much is bad for you. too little is bad for you. some people swear by 6 hours and never get dementia and some do. what's universal is to stick a regular bed time. as you get older, your ability to sleep well decreases; it's just a fact of life.
4). stay socially active. no, 4chan doesn't count; face-to-face conversations and interactions w people is the goal. you don't have to be a social butterfly but try going for new experiences and having conversations w new people on a regular basis.
5). stay physically active. don't try to compete in the crossfit international championships; just stay active. cardio, moderate weights, yardwork, household chores. try limiting the time that you sit on your ass on your days off.
right now, there's no cure for alzheimer's. this is why we need a pro-science society.
