>>13019152Well and because its fucking dumb to become a doctor. The majority of doctors I have talked to say being a doctor fucking sucks, but people just dont listen (hell, I didnt listen either)
People want to become a doctor because of antiquated and retarded reasons:
>"I want to save lives" 98% of doctors dont really save lifes. They prescribe more or less efective pills to prevent some chronic disease that 50% of patients dont even take correctly. The biggest delusion in society is that doctors are able to cure disease. In Internal, unless you have an infection or some mild trauma, modern medicine is really shit and just tries to delay the innevitable. Surgery is just fucking around with your internal organs and removing shit that you need for a good quality of life. I guess you can consider Emergency Medicine "saving lifes" but even then the majority of your days will be coughs/GERD/vomits/disimpactions/other stupid shit.
>"I want to make Money"Just become a lawyer or engineer. You will make a similar amount of money with less work. Especially if youre not in the US (or Canada) most doctors arent even rich.
>"I like Science/Biology"As a doctor, you really arent a scientist. You are more like a glorified blue collar worker. There are very few jobs that actually allow you to do high impact medical investigation and even then, most of what you will do is just testing new methods of pharmaceutical companies and/or epidemiological studies.
>"I want the recognition/prestige/etc."Nowadays doctors are looked at as snakeoil salesmen and incompetent. People would rather believe what Facebook or YouTube tells them.
Medical students (and doctors) tell other people to not bother with medicine because its fucking stupid. Whom would a "Book guide" actually help? Will some normal guy pick up a hard copy of Harrison and casually read it? Every medstudent already knows what books to read because medicine is actually very straight forward, its just a lot of stuff.
