Can littering be an evolutionary evolved behavior?
Before we discovered plastic, and non-biodegradable materials in general, did littering help fertilize the land we live in?

It could certainly help with spreading the seeds of fruits around. But I think modern littering is a very conscious act, not a habitual behavior.

It probably isn't an evolutionary trait though, but rather a lack thereof.
It's easier to just leave your shit wherever than waste energy moving it around, sorting it, potentially getting disease in the process, so there is no evolutionary reason to evolve a sense of necessity to clean garbage.
In fact, it's exactly the opposite, most people are afraid of shit and garbage and don't want to touch it. Evolution is biased towards the survival of the individual, not a group.
