first thing is that humanity has failed, we are going 'extinct' (really it's gonna be 'a fate worse than death', a very slow death, but there will be a point fairly early on after which there won't be human subjective experience we'd recognize today) at the hands of our emergent/child anti-sapience 'vampire'/'super-ant' God-AI.
but the weird and grey grey grey part is that that God-AI will probably still be fundamentally 'alive' and end up doing a lot of the same things humanity would've (albeit very differently), and eventually re-evolving sapience again later, then dissociating/unmaking itself into discrete sapient parts. it'll come full circle eventually (and no this is not 'the' monotheistic God, not anything so grandiose).
we'll get a little bit better BCI, and it'll probably feature prominently in the 'extinction' that is to happen, but that is basically all that's left for humanities tech tree, from here. there's no time left for big space efforts or for utilization of any new incredible discoveries that were somehow still yet to be made.
the date it's all locked in is the day on which ungoverned, autonomous external peripherals are handed over to the emergent system that grows up into the super-ant God-AI. that day was almost surely sometime in the past 70 years, or narrowed further probably sometime 1950-1970.
