Well 1 is a vertical line, and it is the same as the amount of cats on your images. 2 is a dome on top which turns into a curve which is sharply turned horizontally left. It is the same as the number of white words on your book. Numbers are described like this by representing more and more objects, and after a certain agreed upon amount of defined numbers they fall into patterns to show more numbers using the symbols already designated

a number is a thing, could exist in real life or it couldn't, a number could be one of those steaks i just grilled, doesn't matter. I have an object that i can do things to, i can cut in half, eat it and intuitively undrestand how much smaller a half is to a whole, i could remove it, by eating eating or throwing it away, then i could grasp the number 0. I could add a copy of itself to it and see, feel and taste how big the pile of 2 steaks is

A number is something that be (associatively) added to other numbers, subtracted from them, and where you can add/subtract one special number to get back your original one.
Fancy numbers have commutative addition and can be muliplied. Really fancy ones (not zeros) can be divided. The coolest ones of all can be constructed with a straightedge and compass.
