Check /r/math and /r/science. The difference is night and day. Most threads here are pure garbage. Some 4channers complain all the time about reddit, but reddit has far better discussions on average than any board in 4chan.

I haven't browsed askscience is years. Last I saw it was full of pseuds. I only browsed Physics questions and the quality was so bad I legitimately got angry. I even posted the correct answer and got downvoted by pseuds who M Sc flairs who also "corrected" me lmao. It's an NPC circlejerk and if you genuinely like it, I'm sure you're one of them. I had the same experience elsewhere too. I have come to the dire conclusion that 4ch is really bad but other places are far, far worse. And I have tried many places. Slashdot used to be adequate but the rot is now simply unbearable.
In particular programmers who think a quick run on Google and Wikipedia gives all the answers needed are a real pain.

Who is a programmer? Not me. My view of /sci/ is that it's a place for "STEM" undergrads and high schoolers to shitpost and not a place for having good discussions (but rarely, they can happen of course). I'd rather these things stay here than spread to the relatively better subreddits I mentioned earlier.

You're entitled to your wrong opinions though. /r/science and /r/askscience are both filled with misinformation, usually because it's flooded with obvious first year graduate students who have massive egos. I rarely found correct information there, and the few times I bothered correcting them (with citations), I got downvoted. I can only presume it's because they didn't understand my comment. /sci/ actually has legit researchers who know their shit, and we have latex markup with Reddit natively lacks. Reminder that /sci/ solved the Haruhi problem, while Reddit hasn't solved shit. Don't let the constant troll threads fool you; the general threads here are of much higher quality than Reddit. Our /sqg/ is much higher quality than /r/askscience.
