Maybe not relevant to this board but I didn't know where else to ask.
How flexible are American universities when it comes to the time at which you start a given PhD? If I applied now, I would have to submit my application next December and start September 2022 according to most admissions websites. In my country (UK) universities are a lot more flexible, I know PhD students who started their PhD before/after the official "start date", I believe this is because in the UK many PhD courses don't have required taught courses, it's mainly/entirely research and as there are no taught courses there's no need to tie the start date to the start of lectures or classes. Is the US also flexible in this regard? I need to know as if I will actually have to wait until Sep 2022 it won't be worth waiting and I'd be better off just doing my PhD in the UK
