GET THAT 90'S MOMOTA IDEALISM OUT OF HERE
THE LOGISTICS OF THAT ARE FUCKED
Look, I get it, ARTEMIS was beautiful-linear FRC, low neutron yield, affordable and clean power from a cislunar economy-romantic as fuck. The paper is worth a read-elegant concept
https://inis.iaea.org/collection/NCLCollectionStore/_Public/23/015/23015780.pdfBut the numbers don't add up. He3 is more common on the moon, but the amount of it you'd get out of a whole ton of regolith is minuscule, especially with realistic mining yields. The energy usage of grinding the ore, heating it, getting the helium purified and condensed and sheer scale of the infrastructure you'd need on the moon to get amounts of he3 relevant to fusion reactors and send it back to earth....it's completely batshit. It can't work. Even with space elevators it's fucking bonkers.
And guess what? It's irrelevant-pulsed d-he3 FRC reactors can use an advanced fuel cycle that just got patent protected in Europe a few weeks ago to breed he3. Only thing the reactor needs is deuterium.
