I feel like Ted was right about his diagnosis (not so much about his solutions). Did someone ever try to refute him directly, or indirectly? Is there a book on it?

His diagnosis is not his, but it's derived by Ellul and some others. Ellul thoroughly analyzed the problem but didn't have any solution to propose.
Ted recognised the analysis was correct and decided to implement a "solution".
It has to be reminded that Ted has been a victim of MKUltra experimentations when he was a student so it's very likely it fucked his mind up
