There's no way we could bring a species capable of interstellar travel, i.e. a way more advanced species "to their knees". It's also unlikely that they are just barely advanced enough for interstellar travel, that's just the minimum. If they were say around 1000 thousands years more advanced us, it would still be bizarrely close relative to the age of the universe and whatnot.

Im on the same idea that everyone else seems to have. They'd be way more advanced that we are, mass produce nukes and just hope its enough really. the best option would be to try to be peaceful and form some kind of alliance or truce.
