Since you are too dense, consider $\mathop{\rm fun} x^2$ , where $\mathop{\rm fun}$ is a stand-in for any function where the argument is traditionally written without braces.

The problem with the OP however, is that he has no idea of the concept of a
"convention". Such as that $1 + 2 \cdot 3$ means that you multiply
2 by 3 and add 1, as opposed to adding 1 to 2 and then multiplying by 3. In his mind,
we all need to write $1 + (2 \cdot 3)$ , lest to make hurt to his little
brain.

$\ln x^2 = \ln(x^2)$ and $\ln^2 x = (\ln(x))^2$ and neither of this is $\ln(\ln(x))) = (\ln \circ \ln)(x)$ . purely by convention, but it's a convention nonetheless.

depending on context, the expression ${ln x^2}$ can mean:
${ln(x^2) = ln(x*x)}$ and ${(ln x)^2 = ln(x)*ln(x)}$

well depending on context ${ln^2 x}$ can mean:
${(ln x)^2}$ , ${ln(ln(x))}$ and ${ln''(x)}$ (double derivative), so that's even worse notation! also it doesn't even fix the fucking problem, ${ln x^2}$ is still ambiguous so know we have 5 "conventions" floating around.

${ln^2 x}$ should always mean ${ln(ln(x))}$ , whoever decided to use that notation for exponents is a moron, and ${ln x^2}$ should never be written in the wild, either use parentheses or state the convention/context first
