>>12996951Ligotti basically uses some early translation of suttas that uses really bad and careless translations of technical terms, like translating "dukkha" as "suffering", "chanda" and "tanha" as desire etc etc. This is where common Western misconceptions like "Buddha said everything in life is suffering", "all desire leads to suffering" and so on come from. In the original suttas there is always distinction between "tanha" (desire or motivation that is akusala, that is unwholesome and leads to dukkha) and "chanda" (desire or motivation that is kusala, that is wholesome and leads to sukkha). Only desires that are rooted in moha, dosa and lobha (roughly speaking delusion, hatred and greed) are akusala. Pretty much the same exact question is explained in Brahmana Sutta (
