[However, unlike Myers-Briggs or other theories based on the Jungian model, we have not incorporated Jungian concepts such as cognitive functions, or their prioritization. Jungian concepts are very difficult to measure and validate scientifically, so we’ve instead chosen to rework and rebalance the dimensions of personality called the Big Five personality traits, a model that dominates modern psychological and social research.]
With that said, credibility in what? No personality theory is ever predictive, but some theories are more descriptive than others. You have to understand that it's not just about being 4 letters, but the combinations that come about from those 4 letters. There is being an introvert, then there is I + J, there is also I + T + J, etc.
The only reason why it could be considered Barnum effect is because you share letters with 15/16 of the types. No matter how different they may be, an INTJ could read the profile of an ISFP and find traits they have in similar cause of the introversion.
Myer's original theory was pretty distinguishing between the different types of attitudes, and it's important to understand the theory itself is about preference and comfort, not capability.
>>12987464I think Jung was on to something in describing the functions, but it's still a very primitive theory. Jung himself had 2 attitudes (introversion and extraversion) and 4 functions, so the types aren't arbitrary.
It's just the preferred function + the preferred attitude, which gives us 8 possible psychological types (which he writes about in his work). Myers just took it a step further, and wrote about the types if their 2nd favorite function was taken into consideration, dividing the 8 types into 16.
