Name one practical benefit we get from space travel.
Hint: there's basically none. We get an escape plan if we hit the 0.0001% odds and Earth goes uninhabitable. Any benefits from space travel are on a stellar scale - meaning we would need thousands of years to start seeing them at least. What do we get from a Mars colony? Why not just fucking make a city in the Sahara and burn money in a central fire pit? The videos would be a lot cooler than looking at a really big red rock.
There is absolutely no reason to not fix Earth first then go to space later. Unfortunately, though, politics are interfering a lot as well in our scientific progress. Soon enough though, we'll satisfy everyone and can get started on biological immortality and other important technologies. Then, space.
