>>12989079>>lifelong believer in science>Jesus Christ, that's the most reddit phrase I've heard in my life.>Science is the practice of skepticism.Um, no. Skepticism is the practice of skepticism. Your brand is paranoid skepticism (assuming motives, plots, conspiracies, etc.)
I just got the moderna vaccine but I'm not skeptical about it. Its a black box in many ways, but so is, for example, a microwave oven. There were paranoid skeptics in the 1950s, too, who thought it was poisoning the food.
If your basis of skepticism is that you only trust science after a certain amount of trials or time has passed, that is fine. That is kind of like the Amish. But that kind of skepticism carries the same limitations. Distrust of modern dentistry comes to mind. Skepticism can carry penalties if misapplied.
Skepticism is good only if its appropriate. When was the last time you were skeptical of drinking the contents of a bottle of milk with an intact hermetic seal? Never. Someone hands you a warm glass of their home-made raw milk. Which situation warrants skepticism?
