Democracy is just a civil war without the fighting. In total states (where everyone is meant to or wants to matter) its stupid to fragment while one side remains solid or "core controlled" as you will just loose. As the "left" has less viewpoint diversity, and is less welcoming of outside opinion and more "culty", the right has to reflect this, if only to survive.
The only way out is to make peoples opinions not matter to state government. eg in Singapore you can have much better, in depth and personal conversations about politics because its an autocracy. We live in a fake democracy, so people will default on two positions.
