Development of control over human action in order to produce the desired result of the overseer.

Production owner wants to improve production by getting worker A to work more. Production owner hires social scientist to figure out how this is possible. Social scientist learns worker A doesn’t like working next to B, but prefers C. The determination plays that if A is allowed to not be in less desirable conditions, she will be more willing to work more hours than before.

Aka the social scientist figures out how to coerce a person into behaving within a given manner by arranging the necessary environmental contingencies to produce the desired outcome.

Social scientists are essentially human manipulators.

Without social progress there cannot be technological progress because the normies wouldn't allow it. Social sciences are useful because they keep the normies distracted. And while trends in social sciences might curb academic freedom for a decade or two you can circumvent that by cooperating with Chinese or Japanese scientists. Once the cat is out of the bag social sciences cannot put it back so they have to deal with the new reality and find some new taboo.

Wrong. The social sciences should be attracting our best and our brightest. Psychology, Economics and Sociology should only be studied at graduate school. Psychology should be entirely built up from Neuroscience. Only people with degrees in Physics, Math, Statistics and other comparatively rigorous STEM fields should go on to study social science. These fields have the largest influence on policy and thus on our lives by extension. They should command our best efforts
