It's been said that racism is closely related to a sense of disgust, in which case it's evolutionary function may be to mitigate the spread of disease. This seems to make sense. For example, had the Native Americans been repelled by the European explorers on the basis of their foreignness, they may have been able to avoid the vicious spread of disease that lead to the collapse of their civilisation.

There is no evolutionary racism. Actual racism (is hating a group of people without reason) is a mental illness. Hating a group of people based off any sort of data cannot really be considered racism. Most people have a reason for being 'racist'. And even if not it's not an evolutionary thing.

altruism is more beneficial for a species, but only if its towards other members in the same group.
If you're altruistic towards others who don't return the favor, they gain an edge and you lose out. If your group is altruistic only towards others in your group, then you gain the benefits of altruism without letting others outside of your group leech off of you.

Evolution has as much purpose as a rock falling from a greater height. I don’t mean that in a pejorative manner either, every aspect of the universe is extremely interesting and the only reason we don’t find it so is because of our severely limited ability to interact with it.
