It's quite a waste of time to try and find a scientific explanation or even a specific singular causation for transgenderism when most of it is completely pseudoscientific or has very small sample sizes.
You'll find better answers in psychology, philosophy and history. This question to me just shows in my opinion a wrong way to think about this phenomenon.
I learned quite embarrassingly late that humans will find a way to affirm and "make sense of" literally anything if that is what they want as they just make their own model and axioms and go from there, and in most cases what they want is what a network of power pushes them towards and allows. The word power in the Foucault framework of thinking.
Anime is very insignificant to the trans pipeline, media in general affects it but that's because media presents itself between everyone at all times. What I'm saying is media is just another subset within the power that creates current-time "truth" in a self reflective super-organism.
If you actually just look into trans peoples twitter accounts or whatever website you want you'll find a reoccurrence of extreme loneliness, that is before the entire transition and a moderate amount after it. Lost people creating a group of lost people to be together instead of alone.
This is why some historians (fringe ones in the current power network) talk about the regular pattern of transgenderism arising before a total decline and fall of a vast social unit with power. It's the whole "mouse utopia" thing as much of a meme it is to mention it now but it gets the point across.
Transgender thinkers, of what little I've read seem to try and counteract it mentioning very contemporary ccru like thinkers talking about how this, as in what is happening now (the information age) has never happened before and this time it's different. But with the rise of China and the fall of America I think it just shows that those fringe historians were more right than wrong at a certain level.

Not to say that China doesn't have any trans people, there will always be some trans people in any society. Either just hedonists, lonely people seeking togetherness in loneliness or just the rare person that feels like the other gender no matter what.

Yes, I'm not saying transgender people don't exist in china. Wouldn't you help your enemy to destroy himself? Transgenderism isn't mainstream in China like it is in the west, they don't autistically disallow it but it is a little taboo, especially with Confucianism being so central now and stuff.
But who knows what will happen. Like I mentioned before something like the information age has never likely ever happened.
