Medicine is very much a service industry, so the fields that pay the most are those where a productive, working member of society pays to have some enhancement or a quick problem fixed.
This is why the most profitable medical fields are plastic surgery, dentistry, cosmetology/dermatology - where vain roasties and /fa/ggots pay to look better; orthopedic surgery and sports shit - which benefits from both the modern /fit/ craze, and the absurd amount of money around professional sports; then most other general medicine fields, where it may not necessarily be the patient that has the money, but at least there are relatives willing to afford treatment; and then finally at the shitty end are fields like psychiatry, geriatrics, palliative care, etc. where nobody really gives a fuck about the patient, and most people(including the relatives) would rather just stick them into some care facility and pretend they don't exist.
