This is not explained by population growth, as you can see by the fact that the difference between 2014 and 2019 is way smaller than even the difference between 2019 and 2020.
If your theory was correct, the United States had to have seen a larger population growth between 2019 and 2020 than in the five year before combined.
Except not even that would have explained it, because the yellow line goes up and down at completely different times than the other ones, perfectely corresponding to the amount of COVID cases.
