'angels' vs 'devils' all cute (anime, presumably) kids trying to help vs hinder/attack the confused protagonists, discerned by the 'angels' having typical ring-halos vs 'devils' having black discs. with some effects evinced in the halo/disc as they use their special powers. and end of act 1 twist reveal it's a game-like 'level up' system and the 'angels' are only helping humans because they're the weakest/newest 'lvl 1' players, their ultimate goal to graduate to being 'devils', and there are higher grades beyond the typical devils. the twist happening because of a higher-grade entities introduction and all the angels AND devils both bowing to them but the 'angels' clearly much more raw-terrified. and that higher-grade entity is like a muscle guy with some kind of crazy unstable-looking high-energy crown.
if they can make a whole franchise out of 'highrise attack' with the stupid masks gimmick someone could probably do something with this.
