Why don't telomere's become shorter in germ line cells?

Telomeres become shorter over time in somatic cells, thereby causing aging.
How come telomeres don't become progressively shorter in the germ line cells as well? What biochemical mechanism is able to prevent this from happening?

Telomerase inhibition, the same thing happens in cancer. If telomeres in germ lines shortened, they'd result in genetic dead ends like you, OP.

No, theres no reason your epithelial cells need to be immortal. The body fixed this by having dedicated stem cells to replace them. Even then places with high replication (colon) have high rates of deadly cancers, further proof that more immortal cells would be bad.

That doesn't address the question. I'm not asking for an evolutionary explanation. I understand why senescence occurs, and in general I feel pretty comfortable with evolutionary biology and genetics. I don't study biology, but I do deal with a lot evolutionary biology and bioinformatics in my line of study, so I feel comfortable with these concepts. The thing is, I don't know shit about biochemistry, developmental biology, or molecular biology, so I was interested in a biochemical explanation for why germ line cells are not subject to telomere shortening, but from an organismal/evolutionary/game theoretic perspective I understand why senescence exists.

Telomerase expression, already answered by >>12965257
Cells communicate with each other so germ lines would have the expression for telomerase.
You'd have to search if you want to know the exact factors that induce this expression. (Maybe PNUTS, but I'm not sure)

Telomeres are reconstructed and epigenetic changes are removed in a newly fertilized egg cell. Otherwise the new individual would be biologically very old. Action by telomerase is one of the mechanisms IIRC.
