It has to do with how confidence changes because of the way we make our world by building on what came before.
When what you think or have heard about something before you study it or do it is amended by actually doing it, you confidence drops off, because you start to know all you have to know to know it.
It is perfectly okay to feel this way, and should be a great indicator that you are actually learning something.
