the real reason is because 1) it is accessible even below the undergrad level. you can learn all about it without opening page 1 of a QM intro textbook and never need an equation. 2) it touches on the weird far-out freaky stuff that high schoolers and hippies think has something to do with consciousness and spirituality and psychedelic drugs. it actually doesn’t but that stuff is perpetually popular among woo-woo people
