>>12958432Let me put an end to this stupid fucking debate right now: math is both created and discovered. We created an initially simplistic language and system to describe certain patterns our brains were able to identify, and over the centuries, we began to expand this system as we noticed more things it could potentially describe and more consistent properties that could be identified within it. Nowadays, mathematics is an incredibly intricate, complex system which has evolved into something far beyond our ability to understand and classify completely. It has taken on a body of its own, and we've only uncovered a fraction of the truths dwelling under the surface within this vast body. It's the mathematician's job to continue uncovering these truths, both for their own sake and because down the line, someone more often than not finds a "real-world use" for mathematical ideas, as the patterns they reflect exist in nature as well. Why is this so hard for people to accept?
