>*YEARS IN THE FUTURE, BUT NOT MANY*
A traumatized public reflects on the Orwellian state of their world-- they look back on the events of the 2020s, the actions of our institutions, the new rollout of restrictions on free and open internet, and they feel only regret that they were foolish enough to allow misinformation and conspiracy theories to proliferate, and they feel contempt for the unqualified dissidents who defended the unfiltered open debate of such dangerous information. They lament-- if only those conspiritards could have seen the future, if they could see what their actions have cost the world, all the suffering people must now endure, all because of them-- they would understand the dangers of internet power, the power to mock and shame, they would understand why harmful information must not be allowed to spread freely. If they could see how their protesting would severely impede our institutions' efforts to respond to the crisis, they would not have acted so selfishly, the world would have returned to normal, and the subsequent interventions would not have been so harsh, or so necessary.
