What do you think of the SABER rocket engine? This is a truly advanced technology, it can give us what we have always wanted - personal spaceships (this will not happen in the near future, but it can give a serious impetus to the development of this topic).

The engine is not what I would want for getting out of earths orbit.
The hybrid rocket engine should be in the back centered
Engines would have to be concord engines an be able to close fully

The X-15 was reusable, they only built 3 for over 100 missions. They just had a 30 day refurbishment after every flight. They'd have to replace the ablative coating after missions that used it for example.

The engine is very interesting, but I have doubts it will ever be used for an orbital vehicle. Especially if Starship works, because two-stage-to-orbit always beats single-stage-to-orbit if both are fully reusable.

Maybe it could be used for suborbital/hypersonic military stuff though.

iirc the engines are curved like that so the intake maintains airflow when the aircraft is flying at a high angle of attack.
If you look closely at the SR-71 it's somewhat similar with downward angled intakes.

Not true, and it seems this engine can't either. Since they both have a max altitude of around 25-30km maybe tops. Any engine that needs air will be the same. You need 80km for the edge of space. Pure rockets only. Like the X-15 already mentioned.

"The edge of space" is a buzz phrase that gets thrown around a lot and it's definition is completely vague.
Space is most commonly recognized to start at 100km for practical purposes, though in reality the atmosphere has no definitive cutoff point. The SR-71 tops out at 25km. So whether or not 25km is the "edge" of space is subjective.

Yeah the 'edge of space' is vague. I posted just above you and said 80km, I just picked that since that's what's required to get your Astronaut badge in the US military. Thus people flying the SR71 wouldn't get an astronaut badge for doing so. X-15 pilots did above 80km.
