Honestly a lot of the EE stuff was either insanely theoretical or just lame. Most breadboard stuff was just analyzing complex responses then modeling on micro-cap.
Best advice for CE is play around with FPGAs if you have access to/can get a dev board. Try making stuff in Vivado or Quartus or whatever you use in your DLS courses.
I've been messing around with the PYNQ - Z2 board since you can import the digital logic block from Vivado to Jupyter and see an insane performance increase while maintaining high-level abstraction.
Again, just my experience, but I would recommend looking into the whole Hardware/Software integration and how leveraging proper software dev can improve a system. SEs get paid insane money for being literal retards.
