Is it really efficient to have a bus line run from a city to a small town when less than 100 people might use it a week? This would also make for long travel times and limited times where one could travel to isolated locations. Try flying from one remote location to another and watch the ticket price soar - same thing happens to buses.
Also, most rural settlements are more spread out than your home country, so what's a traveller supposed to do after their nine hour, 400 mile bus journey? Walk another eight miles to where they need to be?
Cars are always better, and they give individuals independence - something you think would have more value.
