Catholic science and catholic scientists

The academic university system that /sci/ worships originated with the catholic church, Galileo was a catholic an supported in his scientific research by the church, even when he was in isolation. The vatican still operates a large, modern astronomical observatory (https://www.vovatt.org), their study of astronomy has continued uninterrupted from well before Galileo to the present, centuries and centuries of continuous effort in the sciences, the catholics have contributed a very large share of the effort to getting us to where we are currently, and yet /sci/ absolutely loathes the church, reeeeeees about it being "unscientific", blames the vatican for gang raping Galileo and shitting on science when the opposite is the truth.
WTF, why does /sci/ hate one of the best, most important sources of scientific information in all of western history?
