Judging from the abstract it sounds like the author is saying that in VERY SPECIFIC demographics, the designated gender may influence what medical interventions a person is likely to receive. How many people do you know have had medical interventions to effect the way one's body develops. (Hormones for transitioning doesn't count bc it is done for cosmetic reasons)
