How can anyone be an expert on ending a pandemic? How many people alive have successfully ended a pandemic, much less how many have ended enough pandemics to be experts on the the matter? People are mostly guessing on the best course of action based on experiences with epidemics and smaller outbreaks with far more limited integration into society. Things that work well at one scale, often fail at other scales. No one is an expert on ending pandemics. Mistakes will be made, which is ok and expected. But this appeal to authority which is being used to squash all opinions other than those from authority figures who are flawed is not helping things any and is causing failed policies to continue instead of being learned from.
