>>12938955Certainly "science communicators" are a problem but I know lots of people who work in science, mostly at the CDC, and they're all political, most obnoxiously so. It's not just about the pandemic, it's about them wanting raises and other increases in compensation so they go on political rants about politician X or politician Y because they perceive that certain politicians will get them more stuff they want. People are weird about identity especially political identity. Once they decide to support the politician X, they feel the need to shill for all of politician X's policies even if many of them have no scientific basis or in some cases are downright un-scientific. So you end up with scientists claiming some political scheme is supported by science when it's not because they've come to identify politically with a politician who they think will get them more goodies. When called out on this, they resort to using an appeal to authority to shutdown anyone who questions the merit of their scientifically dubious political statements.
