Empathy is shit. Right now the primary schools in the USA are trying to "teach" empathy. What they are actually doing is influencing kids to believe that they can read minds. It is beyond hubris. Its a claque of women, who are convinced that boys, in particular, need to be taught feelings are more important than ideas, knowledge, facts, or skills, or else they will grow up to rape women and start wars. Its fucked up.
Obsessing about "empathy" is what undergrads do. What it really is, is the byproduct of experience, accrual of wisdom and intelligence through life experiences in a society that is interconnected at the human scale. That is disrupted in an internet mediated society. This is why people talk about an "empathy" deficit. It is because kids are getting no life experiences sitting inside, staring at screens, or in the highly structured, artificial environment of the school system. Their "examples" are their moronic parents, teachers, and the rest of adult society that does nothing but gaslight them, and provide an example of hypocrisy and self-destruction, ignorance, and stupidity.
I feel sorry for kids. They are being gas-lit. They are being taught that the adult world makes sense, and is morally consistent, and that a course in mental telepathy is how to become an adult. They are being brainwashed, and will graduate thinking something is wrong with them, because adult society will never make sense, and the only emotions they will detect are fraudulent: the happiness of people on anti-depressants, etc.
