Are narcissists the villains of the psychology world?

It seems like they’re targeted more often than psychopaths and more commonly diagnosed by couch therapists.

The idea appeals.to a popular sentiment in modern liberal democracies, that goodness is not exclusive to exceptional individuals but is something generally shared by the larger mass and that former open recognition of exceptional people and hatred of mediocrity that was seen on antiquity and carried throughout history on various in various forms like art and status nobility has now become pathologized. There may in fact be genuine pathological narcissists but the general interest in the idea seems to be less about helping people and more about imposing popular moral beliefs. Imagine if exceptional people were allowed to call a spade a spade on a public platform without all the angry crabs ripping them apart just because they're too shitty and ugly by comparison. I'm a kind of shitty person myself, but seeing normies get their egos squashed would feel liberating

Going by traditional and widespread understandings of the terms, psychopaths aren't even necessarily inmoral people, they'd just be much more willing to commit inmoral behavious than others. We live in quite an inmoral and contradictory world, these people really just fill in the positions where their special minds are needed. Narcissists tend to be pain in the ass to the people around them, hence why they get more attention. Also narcissists are much more common and don't seem to be genetic.
