>>12921285Autism/aspergers means you've got a high possiblity of exceptional intellectual traits, but also a number of mental health issues (which then in turn may cause social isolation and thus more mental health issues, such as depression).
As an autist, you're pitting any intellectual advantage you may have against an abnormal number of issues holding you back.
Also, intelligence isn't just a single number, intellectual advantages that you have aren't necessarily going to make you better in school, possibly even worse.
I reckon the biggest, most common advantage that people on the autism spectrum have is being able to very easily combine creativity and logic. School rarely allows such a quality to be employed, and even when it does it never seems to reward it. In fact, such a quality is a disadvantage when it can't be used, because it's very distracting.
In short, as an autist in school your advantages aren't necessarily going to help you and may hinder you, but you most definitely will have disadvantages that most definitely will hinder you.
The world is shaped by and for neutrotypical people, and you learn that the hard way.
