i hate to break it to you, but the best storage we currently have is the cloud. now figure out that dilemma. how much space does the internet use up physically in the internet. and no "muh datacenters" , those are not centralized and all over the globe.

It already is taking up this.
We have just enough redundancy for a fair bit of it to be failsafe, it wouldn't be economically viable to do anything else.

Look at NSA spending budget for the last ten years, multiply it by the black budget correction factor, divide by the compression coefficient, subtract network overhead and maintenance costs. Probably 700 billion dollars.
