if the entire universe is infinitely large and distributed the same as the observable universe wouldn't that mean there are an infinite amount of planets?

If you want my personal opinion I'd say it does. Since the universe doesn't have a centre, it expands everywhere at once. So it either started infinite and grows infinitely or it has positive curvature. I'm not a physicist though.

Unless Supersimmetric string theory turns out to be true, the structure of the universe is not the same things as the matter-energy of the universe. Infinite Spacetime does not imply infinite matter-energy, with the only exception of quantum fluctuations.

Anyway, we don't know if the universe is infinite or not. We can only observe a certain part of it.

Diatomic oxygen gas.

It's so reactive that given the time scale of solar systems it would be consumed by rusting available minerals. If a planets atmosphere absorbs light in the range of diatomic oxygen then we can be pretty sure there's some interesting chemistry going on

An universe infinite imply, infinite objects, so any object can be "decided"(by perceiving) have infinite number.
So yes there is an infinite of planets, a real infinite ensemble.
