a huge thing that shaped the intellectual sphere of today was the “free speech movement”. which was spearheaded by undergraduates wishing to make it possible for all ideas to be freely expressed within universities in a time when left wing ideas were suppressed. literally, that was the case—mccarthyism was abound then.
unfortunately now we have an anti-free-speech thing dominating campuses: woke and trans shitters who want to cancel everyone. i agree with their right to exist but i do NOT agree with their tactic of cancelling everyone who expresses any sort of alternate opinion
