They tried and it didn't work in a recent study I believe. Economically it's simply quicker to do a vaccine. Sweden tried herd immunity and it's not as quick as China or Taiwan.

Herd immunity is not something to play with. Moreover you have chances of dying after getting covid. And don't forget the long covid and lingering symptoms.
Natural immunity is better but not with these tradeoffs
