i feel like plenty of girls who just wrote memorized for the tests but would literally cry during problem sessions managed to pass the real analysis course i took at an ivy league school. i would guess the actual weed happens in grad school courses, not undergrad.

fuck you my undergrad real analysis prof literally ripped the heart out of a man who couldn't prove the $\pi - \lambda$ Theorem the day of the lecture we learned what a $\sigma$ algebra was.

Only 13 students passed the course, everyone else dropped the honors track to the pansy math track which was apparently more like whatever your ivy-league old boys club of jews were doing

i’m not trying to say ivy leaguers face the toughest filters during undergrad. OTOH ivy league schools have ridiculously high matriculation rates, especially for undergrads, i admit that. but still i think it is reasonable that the true filters to high-level math are at grad level

I personally know a girl who was a math major, passed a bunch of math class up to PDEs, then got to real analysis, got filtered and changed her major to music. Kind of tragic, but also hilarious.

I think women shouldn't be explicitly encouraged to pursue any STEM that requires calculus. It's kind of cruel.
